DIY Herbal Lavender Deodorant

DIY Herbal Lavender Deodorant

Today is a little fun as we are going to make our own deodorant, and the best part is that you should have most of the ingredients in your kitchen cupboard. This deodorant contains only 4 simple ingredients, making it super easy and affordable to make.

Deodorant is one of the things you should clean up as soon as possible.

Store bought deodorants are not only on the expensive side, they are also heavily laden with toxic ingredients such as synthetic fragrance, aluminum, parabens, triclosan, TEA & DEA, talc, propylene glycol and phthalates. Research has shown that all these chemicals can contribute to hormone disruption and can contribute to disease within the body.

By making your own deodorant you are treading lightly for the sake of your health, your wallet, the planet and our animal friends.

This decadent herbal deodorant smells divine and you can switch out the lavender oil and replace it with one of your favourite essential oils.

The baking soda used in this deodorant is an all natural way to deodorize odors, the arrowroot powder is purely used to thicken, and the coconut oil is not only a way to moisturise and nourish the skin, but it also is a natural anti-microbial and anti fungal!

Some essential oils you may enjoy to use instead of Lavender

  • Grapefruit
  • Rosemary
  • Lemon
  • Rose
  • Or maybe try one of our botanical perfumes [just double the essential oil dosage to what the recipe recommends]

INGREDIENTS

3 tablespoons coconut oil ***make sure the coconut oil is free from monkey exploitation - try our no monkey business coconut oil if you can't source one from your local health shop

2 tablespoons baking soda
2 tablespoons arrowroot powder (can add more for a thicker deodorant)
2-4 drops of lavender essential oil

INSTRUCTIONS

  • Simply mix all the ingredients together in a small bowl
  • If you enjoy a creamier deodorant similar to a moisturizer, use more coconut oil, and if you enjoy a harder deodorant similar to a stick, use more arrowroot powder.
  • Pour in a small glass jar with a lid and store in a dark spot (beauty cabinet drawer is perfect)
  • Rub about a teaspoon of the herbal deodorant to underarms every morning or as needed. The coconut oil, even if solid, will start to melt into your skin with the warmth of your body.

A Note: Coconut oil melts at warmer temperatures, therefore I find it best to store this in a cool place to make sure it stays a solid! If you’re in warm/hot climates you can simply keep this in the fridge and when you apply it on the skin, it’ll melt beautifully! If you don’t have arrowroot on hand, use corn starch.
