Tea Meditation is a practice that is over 900 years old! It originated in Japan and is included under the umbrella of Zen meditation. Zen meditation focuses essentially on mindfulness and experiencing the present moment.

It involves being completely present in each moment and aware of the uniqueness and briefness of these moments. More so, it focuses on having a deep sense of gratitude for each moment.

Join me for a moving meditation where we will drink and celebrate both tea and life.

Relaxing for 5 or 10 minutes alone with a hot cup of tea has the power to quieten the mind and stir life within.

With so many of us living busy and stressful lives, taking a moment to be alone with a cup of tea works wonders to de-escalate the day, calm the mind and ground oneself in the present moment.

When we take this moment to slow down and drink our tea,  we reconnect with the present moment and therefore we reconnect back to mindful living and that soulful quiet space that exists in-between the daily chores, duties and tasks

Immersing ourselves into a space of stillness and quietude that is soothing, and rhythmic. That place that resets us back into a place of calm.

Tea ceremonies are a big part of Asian cultures, and amongst the tea practitioners in Japanese traditions it is a common belief  and saying that “The taste of Tea and Zen are one.”

Which ultimately means that when you drink your tea with your whole mind and heart, it is equal to spending time on a meditation cushion.

Drinking tea is about being in the present moment, witnessing the reactive mind, and calmly learning to accept and be with what is. Having a deep appreciation for the beauty and uniqueness of the present moment and that life is transient or ever-changing.

It is about creating a meaningful moment from the simple and ordinary act of drinking a cup of tea. Aware that this moment is totally and completely unique and will never come again as it is right now, therefore you drink your tea with complete awareness and appreciation of the moment.

The very act of drinking tea mindfully is not just about being fully awake in the moment, it's also about living the moment with an open heart.
