Today I want to share with you one of my favourite pieces of meditation music that is perfect for all meditations, especially a moving meditation. In fact this is the piece I used in my recent Tea Meditation that I released on YouTube.
I invite you to use this music as your backdrop as you celebrate life and cultivate mindfulness with a moving meditation. A moving meditation is about being in the present moment, witnessing the reactive mind, and calmly learning to accept and be with what is. It is about having a deep appreciation for the beauty and uniqueness of the present moment and respecting that life is transient and ever-changing.
To be calm is the highest achievement of self – Zen proverb
There are many forms of moving meditation, and in fact there are no rules or limits to what is classed as a moving meditation. The goal is to physically move the body while the mind stays anchored to the present moment. Whether it is yoga, running, walking, doing the dishes, gardening, eating or mopping the floor – when all these tasks are done with complete mindfulness they become a moving meditation.
Moving meditation is a big part of Zen philosophy. For those of you who are a little vague or not familiar with Zen philosophy, the main thing to understand and know is that Zen is not a religion it is simply a way of being where the goal is to calm the internal chaos and reach a deep state of inner peace, stillness and contentment for all that is.
It is not about having no thoughts at all, for that is almost impossible, the goal is to become an observer of your thoughts and cultivate your ability to recognise that you don’t have to buy into everything that comes up. Part of the experience is recognising that your mind will stray, so when it does, you bring your awareness back to the physical movement of your body
Taking the time to be present and mindful in what you are doing has the power to quieten the mind down enough so that you can experience new ways of being.
Mindfulness immerses us back into a space of stillness and quietude that is soothing and rhythmic, a place that resets us back into a state of calm.
With so many of us living busy and stressful lives, taking a moment to be mindful within our own movement and thinking works wonders to de-escalate the day, calm the mind and ground oneself in the present moment.
When we take this moment to slow down and move mindfully, we reconnect back to the present moment and that soulful quiet space that exists in-between the daily chores, duties and tasks. It is a place that allows us to access the portal into our own inner truth and wisdom.
A moving meditation is about creating a meaningful moment, aware that this moment is totally and completely unique and will never come again as it is right now, therefore you move, do and think with complete awareness and appreciation of the moment.
The very act of moving mindfully is not just about being fully awake in the moment, it's also about living the moment with an open heart.
It is an opportunity to experience magic in even the most ordinary activities of your everyday life. The practice of moving through your day with awareness and presence is an act of simplicity, yet when done with mindfulness can become an opportunity to seek deep within, a journey which will take a lifetime to explore.
Whether you're alone or with a friend or loved one, choose to be fully awake within that moment and open your heart to the world around you. Learn how to do this and life will transform – as you go from a state of stress and distracted to finding calm, contentment and a deep appreciation for all that is.
